My first Princesses volume, since 2021

This book is one of the first I ever got in my collection. I've had it since 2021, and for a long time it was my favorite Disney princess coloring book. Other books have come out since, but this one still holds a special place.

Why this theme? Because coloring dresses, long flowing hair, and princess accessories is simply a joy. It's detailed, it looks gorgeous once finished, and the color palettes are harmonious. I much prefer this to pages with princes or male characters - and I fully own that.

Who is this book for?

Anyone who loves Disney princesses, without hesitation. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced colorist, you'll find pages at your level - some very approachable, others more demanding with fine detailed zones.

This book is also incredibly versatile when it comes to materials. Over the years I've tried many different tools on it - colored pencils, acrylic markers, even tube paint - and everything works beautifully without bleed-through.

The princesses inside

The book is entirely focused on Disney princesses, with dresses, castle scenes, backgrounds, and lots of little details to color. My personal favorites in this volume: Jasmine, Rapunzel, Ariel, and Belle. The outfits and color schemes of these characters look especially beautiful once completed.

Jérémy Mariez chose palettes that stay faithful to each heroine's iconic colors. As you color, you can recognize the princess taking shape - and that moment when the character starts to emerge is always satisfying.

What tools to use?

This is one of the most material-friendly books I've tested. Over the years I've used:

Everything worked without bleed-through or page damage. The thick paper really makes the difference. It's reassuring when you want to experiment with new techniques.

One exception: alcohol markers. The pages are double-sided, and alcohol ink bleeds through and ruins the coloring on the back. Stick to acrylics, pencils, or paint if you want to keep every page intact.

One thing specific to this book: the white zones aren't always solid. Some have lines running through them, which can show if left untouched. I use an opaque white marker to fix this - Posca, Tooli Art white, and Molotow all do the job well.

What I loved

  • 100% princess-themed: consistent from start to finish
  • Palettes faithful to each character - you can recognize the princess as you color
  • Highly detailed characters (dresses, faces, accessories, hair)
  • Compatible with a wide variety of materials without bleed-through
  • Varied difficulty: accessible and challenging pages in the same book

What to keep in mind

  • White zones aren't always uniform - an opaque white marker is nearly essential
  • Double-sided printing: avoid alcohol markers
  • Backgrounds are less detailed than the main characters
  • Multiple shades per color family needed to match the palettes

Comparison with Petites Princesses

Other princess-themed books have come out since, and I also own Petites Princesses. The main difference? This original Princesses volume really focuses on full gowns, long flowing hair, and sweeping scenes. Petites Princesses features more compact, cuter character designs.

Both are great, but if you want to color elaborate dresses and detailed long hair, this original volume is still my go-to for that.

My final verdict

A book I've had since 2021 and never get tired of. It's been with me since my early days in mystery coloring, and it remains a reference in my collection.

If you love Disney princesses and enjoy coloring detailed outfits and hair, you'll love this book. Just bring a good opaque white marker, avoid alcohol-based tools, and otherwise feel free to use almost any material you like.
