Today we're reviewing two coloring books by the same artist: Night Magic and Gothic by Selina Fenech. Both titles share many similarities : format, paper quality, artistic style but each has its own distinct identity. Here's everything you need to know to choose your favorite... or to get both!

Night Magic

Theme: vampires, witches, fairies, the moon, nocturnal atmosphere and nature.

Night Magic immerses you in an enchanting nighttime world. The characters (elegant witches, mysterious fairies, bewitching vampires) are beautifully set against natural backdrops: forests, moonlight, flowers, stars. The mood is at once soft and dark, with a striking visual poetry throughout.

Gothic

Theme: dark fantasy, medieval atmosphere, castles, gothic creatures.

Gothic leans into a darker, more architectural universe: crumbling castles, creatures of the night, knights, medieval fantasy. The mood is more austere and dramatic, with denser compositions and a strong dark fantasy aesthetic throughout.

Shared strengths

The paper is one of the biggest highlights across both books: sturdy and resistant to alcohol markers and watercolors, a real luxury compared to many coloring books on the market.
Single-sided printing is an excellent choice: no risk of bleeding through to the next page while you color.
No pre-made shadows: Selina Fenech gives you complete freedom to create your own lighting and shading effects. A real treat for intermediate and advanced colorists.
The artist's graphic style is distinctive and refined: elegant female figures, fine details, balanced compositions.
At under €13, the value for money is outstanding.

Worth noting

Both books are in English but that's no problem for coloring! The titles and a few notes are in English, but no reading is required to enjoy the illustrations.
The difficulty level is intermediate to advanced: the drawings are detailed and benefit from some coloring experience, especially when it comes to shading and gradients.

Which one to choose?

Love mysterious feminine characters, vampires, witches and nocturnal nature? ? Night Magic is for you.
Prefer a dark medieval world, castles and dark fantasy? ? Gothic will be your favorite.
Can't decide? Good news: at this price point, both easily fit in the budget!

Personal verdict

Both books are true gems for fans of dark fantasy and quality coloring. My personal favorite is Night Magic for its characters (vampires, fairies, witches) and its nocturnal, nature-infused atmosphere which resonates more with me. Gothic's medieval feel appeals to me a little less personally, but the book is just as beautiful and well-crafted. Either way, Selina Fenech delivers: quality paper, a unique style, and total creative freedom. Many wonderful hours of coloring ahead!
