A Volume I Have Mixed Feelings About

I got this one in January 2026, and my overall impression is mixed.
I really love Tangled as a film. But like with the Moana volume, I just cannot connect with the artwork here.
Rapunzel's face is often hard to recognize, with something off about the proportions. The colors are muted, less vibrant than you would hope for this universe.
It may not be a general quality issue but simply William Bal's style, which just does not click for me personally.
That said, if you set the faces aside, quite a few colorings in this volume are genuinely decent.

What I Liked

The per-page color swatch is a real plus: every coloring comes with its own palette reference, very helpful for planning before you start.
The outlines are clearly visible and zones are well defined, even on the most detailed pages.
And when you set the faces aside, some of the backgrounds and scenes are genuinely well crafted. The settings, the accessories, the environments: when William Bal is at his best, it shows.

What Bothered Me

Rapunzel's face is often unrecognizable. For a full volume dedicated to her, that is a real issue.
The palettes are generally muted, which feels at odds with the colorful and luminous world of the film.
And pages 6 and 35 simply have no color codes printed in the design at all. An oversight by the author, clearly.
On a standard coloring book you could improvise, but on a mystery coloring book it is especially problematic: without codes AND without being able to guess the subject easily, those two pages are nearly unusable. I have not figured out what to do with them yet.

Per-Page Color Swatch

Every coloring page comes with its own color swatch. At this level of detail and with so many shades required, it is genuinely useful for getting your tools ready before you start.

Solution Pages

Solution pages are grouped at the back of the book. On pages this detailed, they serve as a helpful reference to check your work or get inspired before starting.

William Bal vs Jérémy Mariez

This volume is not by Jérémy Mariez, and it shows.
William Bal has pages that are genuinely strong, and others that fall short. The quality is uneven.
Jérémy Mariez, by contrast, delivers consistently across all his books: every page is carefully crafted, faces are recognizable, color choices are solid.
It is not a definitive verdict on William Bal, but if you are coming from Mariez volumes, the difference may sting a little.

My Verdict

I have not colored a single page in this volume yet, so I cannot give you practical material recommendations.
What I can say: if you are a Tangled fan and the drawing imperfections do not bother you, you will still find interesting and well-constructed pages in here.
If you are expecting to find the exact Rapunzel from the film, you may be a little disappointed.
And pages 6 and 35 with no color codes remain a real unresolved problem.
